4-H cloverA delegation from Chatham County attended the 73rd annual 4-H Electric Congress July 7-8, 2020. Mr. Deon Bailey and Mr. Eric Sullivan, members of the Chatham County STEM 4-H Club, represented the Chatham County 4-H program during the annual congress.

The two-day event, held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, included over 145 4-Hers, adult leaders, and Cooperative Extension professionals from 37 counties across the state. Since 1947, Duke Energy, Dominion Energy, and the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives have sponsored the annual congress event to emphasize energy conservation and the fundamentals of electricity and renewable energy technologies. The NC 4-H Electric Energy Program is one of the most popular activities among Tar Heel 4-H’ers, with a rich history in Cooperative Extension dating back to the days when Extension electrification demonstration programs were essential to the success and development of rural America and its farms.

The 4-H program serves as the premier positive youth development program of North Carolina Cooperative Extension, based at North Carolina State and North Carolina A&T State Universities. More than 232,000 young people between the ages of 5 and 18 participate in North Carolina 4-H educational activities each year with the help of 20,563 adult and youth volunteers.

For more information regarding the 4-H Electric Program, please contact the Chatham County 4-H office at 919-542-8202 or via email at extension.programs@chathamnc.org.
