Waynesville, NC: Twelve Haywood County Youth competed in public speaking presentations on Thursday June 8th at the N.C. Cooperative, Haywood County Center. These public speaking presentations could be 5-12 minutes in length on various topics. There are many different categories to present on! If you can think of it, you can most likely present it! Three Haywood County 4-H youth would later compete at the West District 4-H Activity Day at Chase High School in Rutherford County held on June 16th.
Those who participated in the Haywood County Presentations are: Brody Lynn with a presentation on plants in the Cloverbud Category; Molly Lynn with a presentation on butterflies in the 8-10 Entomology Category; Eliza Lynn with a presentation on Taekwondo in the 8-10 Open Class Category; Randy Lynn with a presentation on Rubik’s Cubes in the 11-13 Open Class Category; Summer Lynn with a presentation on turkeys in the 14-18 Poultry Category; Annabelle Jennings with a presentation on eco decorin the 11-13 Family and Consumer Sciences Category; Emmalyn Jennings with a presentation on backyard wildlife in the 8-10 Forestry and Wildlife Category; Zachary Jennings with a presentation on Rockets in the 8-10 Science and Technology Category and Will Roberts with a presentation on Environmental Club in the 14-18 Citizenship and Community Service Category.
The three 4-H youth that presented at both the Haywood County and West District Competitions are: Sarah Roberts who placed 1st at the West District Competition the 8-10 Entomology Category with her presentation on pollinators. Charlie Roberts placed 1st at the West District Competition in the 8-10 Fisheries & Aquatics Category with his presentation on Hellbenders. Arielle Carpenter placed 1st at the West District Competition in the 14-18 Health and Fitness Category with a presentation on caffeine. Arielle also competed at State Presentations in July.
Getting up in front of a group of people and speaking is no easy task! Youth who participated in both Haywood County Presentations and the West District Public Speaking Competition did a great job!
