Collapse ▲Bacterial infections are common in commercial trout raceways. The only way to treat an internal bacterial infection is by the use of medicated feed, which can only be obtained through a veterinary feed directive (VFD). There are materials that have proven effective at killing bacteria on the surface of fish and are free in the water. While not as effective at helping fish that are already sick, these treatments can help prevent the spread of bacteria to other fish, prevent secondary fungal infections, while also potentially helping sick fish fight their infection. Below is information containing use information and the current prices associated with their use.
Formalin – External protozoa (costia, chilodonella, ich, etc..); fungus
Hydrogen Peroxide – bacteria that cause columnaris, bacterial coldwater disease and bacterial gill disease; fungus in eggs; skin flukes
Potassium Permanganate – external protozoa (costia, chilodonella, ich, etc); fungus; external bacterial infections
Chloramine-T – bacteria that cause columnaris, bacterial coldwater disease and bacterial gill disease
Diquat Dibromide – bacteria that cause columnaris, bacterial coldwater disease and bacterial gill disease
