National STEM / STEM Day

National STEM/STEAM Day is November 8, 2023

If you're unfamiliar with STEM/STEAM it's an acronym that stands for....

S - Science

T - Technology

E - Engineering

A - Art

M - Math

What's the difference between STEM and STEAM?  The answer can be as simple as an extra letter, but can be more complicated and often debated as to which one is correct.  Some even extend the acronym to include an R for reading/writing, creating STREAM, which really adds to the debate.  Our friends in Robeson County 4-H wrote a great article that explains the differences called STEM, STEAM or STREAM? if you're curious and would like to know more about the differences.

No matter the acronym, youth involvement in STEM programming has many benefits including encouraging curiosity, inspiring creativity and fostering collaboration just to name a few (6 Benefits of STEM Education).

In honor of National STEM/STEM Day here are a few activities you can do with your family using items many people would be able to find around their house!
