*****NEW REQUIRED TRAINING FOR ALL APPLICATORS*****
In order to comply with new EPA regulations, all certified pesticide applicators are required to view an NCDA&CS-developed a one-hour video, "NCDA&CS Required Pesticide Certification & Training Standards Update." All applicators who took their pesticide exam prior to 2025 are required to watch this one time Certification and Training Update Video. You may watch the video on the NCDA&CS website or attend one of the following in person trainings held at the Extension Office in Haywood County.

Need a pesticide license?
Pesticide licenses are required in order to use restricted use pesticides in the state of North Carolina. You can hold a PRIVATE applicator license for agricultural commodities grown on land you own/rent or a COMMERCIAL applicator license if you earn money from the spraying of pesticides. In order to be licensed you will need to take a pesticide exam. More information on pesticide applicator licenses can be found here.

Online Exam Options & More In Person Exam Dates
In select locations you may register for a pesticide school (2 days) where you take a class prior to the exam. If registering for a pesticide school you do not need a separate registration for the pesticide exam; however, you will need to pay for the exam at the time of the exam. The exam free is separate from the school registration fee.

Need recertification?
Private applicator licenses are valid for THREE years and require 2 hours of V credit and 2 hours of X credit by September 30 of the year of renewal.
Commercial applicator licenses are valid for FIVE years and require various hours based on license categories earned in at least two years by June 30 of the year of renewal. More Information on recertification requirements found here.

Need Certification for Paraquat Use?
Check the NCDA&CS website for paraquat training and certification requirements.
Paraquat training is offered through Syngenta.
In order to use paraquat, each individual must be a certified pesticide applicator and complete and pass paraquat training. Certification is good for three years and each individual must keep a printed certificate for their records.

Haywood County Center sponsors a pesticide disposal day every other year (2027).
Check back for future disposal dates which will be posted here as dates are confirmed. If you need to dispose of pesticides prior to that date, please check out the Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program's event calendar.
