2026 Summer Service Project
This summer, we are offering a 4-H Summer Service Project for anyone to join and help out with! Community service is a pillar of our work with 4-H, and is something that every young person in our program should be involved in to help our local community!
The Donation Station project is a great one for youth and parents to jump in and help and have an immediate impact this summer. The plan is to set up a booth at the Haywood Historic Farmer's Market where we collect donations from folks at the market of produce (purchased that day from the farmer's market) or cash (where we go and purchase produce at the farmer's market). We then take all of the donated produce, weight it so we know how many pounds we had donated, and take it to the Haywood Pathways Center to use in their meal services each evening!
What you will do as a family volunteering with this Donation Station project is assist me in handling the booth for the day (aka you are not on the hook alone for this project). We will have two shifts you can sign up for, or cover both for a full session. The shifts will be 8:00 am to 10:00 am AND/OR 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
- Help load my vehicle with our Donation Station gear and event tent at the extension office
- Help set up the event tent and table set up at the farmer's market
- Greet people at the farmer's market and encourage them to donate produce for our project
- Go with the kids to purchase produce with cash donations
- Help the kids weigh the produce to keep track of how much we have had donated
- Help take down the event tent and table set up at the end of the market
- (optional) Go with me to deliver the produce to the Haywood Pathways Center
Parent Volunteers
We are always needing volunteers to help make our 4-H programs happen! Parents who are interested in volunteering with a program this summer will get FREE admission for up to two youth for that program. You will need to be present for the entire program!
Tasks we typically need help with are: assisting youth with activities/projects, setting up, cleaning up, handling snacks, etc.
