April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse
On April 8 2024 a total solar eclipse will be visible to us here in Western North Carolina! A solar eclipse is when the moon slips in front of the sun creating a shadow. While we in the Waynesville area won't be in the path of totality we will be able to see the eclipse cover around around 87%, according to the website
Eclipse2024.org. Our area should be able to start seeing eclipse activity right before 2 pm until 4:30 pm with the maximum eclipse around 3 pm.NASA is another great place to find information about the eclipse click here for the
eclipse website.
Eclipse Safety
While an eclipse of any kind is super cool to see we cannot look directly at it. Have no fear there are other ways to view this spectacular site while keeping safe! Click here for Nasa's thoughts on
how to stay safe during the eclipse.
Eclipse Activities
Thanks to our friends at The Ohio State University Extension (more than half of Ohio counties are located in the path of totality!) we have a few activities for a little extra fun during the eclipse. Click the links below to learn how to create a pinhole camera and to create pinhole art!
