Composting Class

When:  Tuesday, May 21: 10:00  – 11:30am

Where: First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley (3634 Soco Road)

Composting is the process by which microbes convert organic materials, leaves, kitchen scraps, and garden waste into a valuable product which, when used on gardens, lawns, and houseplants, results in healthier plant growth. Composting also reduces waste, improves soil structure, adds nutrients to the soil, and suppresses plant diseases, weeds and pests.
Presented by Bonnie Refinski-Knight, an NC State Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteer. After the presentation, participants will see an example compost bin.

Maggie Valley Community Garden is hosting classes at the First Baptist Church in Maggie Valley (3634 Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC 28751). NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteers, as guest speakers, will present a lesson lasting approx. 1 hour. This will be followed by outdoor demonstrations approx. 30 minutes at the Maggie Valley Community Garden. Please note: The community garden is a short walk from the parking lot on uneven grassy terrain.

The class is free, but pre-registration is required as attendance is limited.  Register Here for Composting Class!
