The NC Beef Cattle Improvement Program is accepting nominations for the 2025 Butner and Waynesville Bull Test Stations. Please review this information carefully and submit by May 28th for the Waynesville Test.

New for 2025:

  • We will utilize the Vytelle SENSE system at the Waynesville Bull Test to measure individual feed intake.
    • This will allow us to monitor eating behavior and to calculate relative feed efficiency. Butner’s Vytelle SENSE system will be ready for 2026.
  • The Waynesville Bull Test will feature bull videos and an online bidding platform to increase buyer access to the bull offering.
  • Both stations will move to an 84-day test (this will not alter the delivery or sale dates).
  • Butner will feature a new sale date of December 13, 2025.
  • The Butner and Waynesville sales will feature an elite group of commercial heifers from some of the area’s top herds. Stay tuned for more details.

IMPORTANT:

  • Genomic testing is a requirement for nomination. All bulls must have tissue/blood samples submitted to their respective breed associations before they are delivered to the test location (see rules for dates).
  • In-state bulls will not need testing for TB (Tuberculosis) and Bangs (Brucellosis) before entering the bull tests. Out-of-state bulls will need to meet the health requirements to enter North Carolina to be eligible for the testing program.
  • Bulls are required to test negative for PI-BVD before arrival at the bull test station.
  • Any bull that is a potential carrier of a recognized genetic defect must be tested before it arrives at the test station if there is a commercial test available. Work with your breed associations to identify bulls that need testing before nominating them to the test.
  • All bulls are required to have an 840 HDX Electronic Identification tag. These tags are required to be in the left ear. If you have already put the tag in the right ear do not take them out.
  • Bulls without the proper tattoo(s) will be rejected. This includes tattoos that cannot be read.
