The 2025 Western Regional Youth Cattle Handling Contest took place in Rutherford County on April 4th in Forest City. Teams from both Tuscola and Pisgah High school represented Haywood County, competing in this very competitive contest and having teams that placed in the top 5.

Teams for the contest consisted of three members who are all bonafide North Carolina 4-H or FFA members who are at least 14 years of age who completed  the following during the contest:

  • Pre inspection of cattle working equipment
  • Handling cattle safely and effectively
  • Cattle processing treatment plan
  • Beef Quality Assurance Test
  • Skillathon – 4 Stations consisting of beef breeds, feed, equipment and a written test.

Congratulations to these youth who are extremely well versed in working cattle. We are very proud of everyone from each team!

Tuscola High School Team 1 will be heading to the state contest to compete in May after finishing 2nd at regionals! Team members consisted of Haiden Creson, Michael Presnell and Ivy Jones.

Tuscola High School Team 2. Members consisted of Dariyan Roland, Bryson Ferguson and Haven Jones.

Pisgah High School Team 1 who placed 4th overall in regionals. Team members consisted of Ayla Griffith, Caleb Glance and Addison Passmore.

Pisgah High School Team 2. Members consisted of Jaylen Sawyer, Adrianna Penley and Kinsley Brown.
