Where: First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley (3634 Soco Road)
Studies have shown that gardening has numerous health benefits for all ages and physical abilities/limitations. Gardening does not have to end when mobility and other issues arise. This hands-on workshop covers the basics of good body mechanics to help protect and support joints including backs, various alternative garden styles, ergonomically designed and adaptive tools, and ways to inexpensively adapt tools already on hand. Lifestyle and physical changes do not mean we have to give up gardening, it just means changing the way we garden.
Presented by Rusti Nichols and Carlene Treviño, NC State Extension Master Gardener℠℠ volunteers. Many examples of ergonomically designed tools will accompany the presentation.
Maggie Valley Community Garden is hosting classes at the First Baptist Church in Maggie Valley (3634 Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC 28751). Extension Master Gardener℠ volunteers, as guest speakers, will present a lesson lasting approx. 1 hour. This will be followed by outdoor demonstrations approx. 30 minutes at the Maggie Valley Community Garden. Please note: The community garden is a short walk from the parking lot on uneven grassy terrain.
The class is free, but pre-registration is required as attendance is limited. Please sign up here. A couple of days before the class we will send you a reminder email.
